Welcome. Thank you for visiting the University Institute for Teaching and Learning (UITL) website. We’re pleased you’ve navigated to the site to learn more about the Institute and our activities.
UITL’s signature programs offer professional learning opportunities to Ohio State instructors across their careers based on a FIT theme: Foundations, Impact, Transformation. New faculty are welcomed to the university and their foundational role as teachers through our New Faculty FIT Program. Mid-career faculty explore various ways of increasing impact in their particular learning contexts through teaching endorsements, and faculty with many years in the classroom assist us in transforming the university by giving back through mentoring.
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and Discipline-based Education Research (DBER) supported and conducted by UITL are also ways to transform our classrooms, the university, and higher education more broadly.
This academic year, we encourage all Ohio State instructors to take advantage of UITL’s Teaching Support Program. During the 2018-19 academic year, 2,700 of stepped into the program by taking the Teaching Practices Inventory, and over 1,600 have completed all of the first two parts that include Teaching@OhioState and the UITL Reading List.
In addition, UITL nearly doubled the number of Teaching Endorsements offered to faculty by the Institute and our partners in the past year. Endorsements focus on an area of practice, inclusive teaching or teaching with technology, for example, and indicate a faculty member’s commitment to ongoing refinement of professional skillsets.
Please continue to return regularly to our site and our event calendar to get a glimpse into upcoming workshops and other programs offered through UITL, University Libraries and ODEE—as well as other teaching and learning partners around campus.
