Dr. Julie Byron graduated from The Ohio State University in 1998 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. She completed her master's degree and residency program at Ohio State in 2004. She is a board-certified small animal internal medicine specialist and holds the rank of Professor – Clinical. Dr. Byron has a broad appointment at the school, between clinical duties, teaching and scholarship. Her clinical and research interests focus on the lower urinary tract and the kidney in dogs and cats. She is particularly interested in interventional procedures in the urinary tract and urinary incontinence. Dr. Byron’s educational interests include development of novel ways to present real-world experiences for students that emphasize the practical application of knowledge in addition to developing and improving clinical reasoning skills.
In 2013, Dr. Byron and a team from the College of Veterinary Medicine created Case Manager, a platform that allows instructors and students to create and work through easily accessible virtual, clinical cases. It enhances clinical reasoning skills, broadens exposure, and provides focused feedback. The platform is used throughout the college and in a wide range of courses.
As a former mentee and mentor, Dr. Byron is looking ahead to passing on the skills and support she received to others in the academic community.
