May Mergenthaler (Ph.D. Princeton University, 2007) is Associate Professor in the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures at Ohio State University. Her research and teaching focuses on literature, culture, and thought of Romanticism and the Goethezeit; poetry from the late 18th century to the present; the public sphere as concept and practice; Ecocriticism; and Environmental Humanities. Currently, May Mergenthaler is currently working a monograph that investigates representations of light in German poetry of the 18th and early 19th centuries (Brockes, Goethe, Hölderlin, Novalis, Günderrode), from the Enlightenment to Romanticism, combining literary analysis with historical and philosophical contextualization.
