Professor Joy McCorriston teaches mid-size and small undergraduate courses and graduate seminars while she advises graduate students and postdocs in Anthropology. She remembers well the “trial-by-fire” experience of 800-student classes in her early career. She brings to the classroom the experience of teaching for several decades, a commitment to diversifying in-class activities, and a practice of periodic updating and re-tuning in her teaching. With a colleague, she revised one of the core introductory courses in Anthropology and has co-authored a textbook and workbook for its unprecedented format. As a researcher leading archaeological and interdisciplinary projects, she has engaged students in her laboratory and fieldwork in Syria, Yemen, and Oman.
