This group meets March 5, 19, and 26 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Are you interested in learning about evidence-based teaching strategies and activities that you can incorporate into your courses to improve student learning? In Teach Students How to Learn Designing for Learning, Saundra McGuire shares tools and strategies to improve student learning and success.  Her methods can often be accomplished in a single session, transforming students from memorizers and regurgitators to students who begin to think critically.

The Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning is partnering with institute affiliate Jane Hammons of University Libraries in organizing a review of journal articles related to themes from Teach Students How to Learn. The articles will provide insight into how educators from a variety of disciplines implemented strategies to support student growth mindset, metacognition, and self-regulation of learning, the outcomes, and lessons learned. Participants can join any session and will receive 1-2 journal articles about a specific strategy in a weekly synchronous meeting via Zoom.

After this workshop participants will be able to:

  • discuss evidence-based strategies that support increased student learning
  • identify sources of primary educational research literature
  • critique educational research journal articles

Meeting Dates are March 5, 19, and 26 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
