Dr. Lin Ding is a Professor of STEM education in the Department of Teaching and Learning at The Ohio State University (OSU). He has extensive experience in student-centered learning and has taught both physics and teacher education courses for two decades. In recognizing his contribution, Dr. Ding received the 2023 OSU Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching. In the same year, he received the American Association of Physics Teachers Fellow Award.  

 

Dr. Ding’s scholarly interests lie in discipline-based STEM education research. His work includes theoretical and empirical investigations of student content learning, problem-solving, reasoning skills, and epistemological development. Dr. Ding specializes in development and validation of research-based assessments and focuses primarily on the quantitative research paradigm. He has published a body of high-impact journal articles, book chapters, and research proceedings papers, many of which appear in top-tier scholarly outlets. In addition, Dr. Ding has led multiple federal and state projects sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the Ohio Department of Education. Currently, he is an Editorial Board Member for Physical Review Physics Education Research and the International Journal of Science Education and is an Associate Editor for PER-Central. He also was Editor for the Physics Education Research Conference Proceedings in 2015-2017. Dr. Ding frequently serves as an invited referee or panelist for various international journals, funding agencies, and professional associations.
