Institute staff available for GE design consultations

The Michael V. Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning is committed to providing support to instructors, departments, programs and colleges engaging in designing or redesigning courses for inclusion in the new General Education curriculum.

Staff at the Institute with expertise in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) pedagogies and inclusive teaching practices; curriculum and course design; and evidence-based instructional strategies are available for the following.

ONE-ON-ONE CONSULTATIONS: Professional instructional consultants are available to discuss all aspects of teaching, including course design, enhanced classroom techniques, course material development and documentation of teaching effectiveness.

Consultants work with instructors to take a scholarly approach to teaching, informed by research and based on the process of asking questions, gathering data, and planning responses.

FACULTY COHORT OR TEAM CONSULTATIONS: Instructors who team teach, instruct different sections of the same course or share instructional philosophies and/or practices may be interested in working with a consultant in a cohort or team.

Team consultations are especially valuable as colleagues serve as an informal community of practice that supports learning, problem solving and sharing of innovative ideas about and approaches to learning contexts.

PROGRAM OR DEPARTMENT CONSULTATIONS: Departments and programs with a critical number of instructors seeking to design or redesign General Education courses may request a visit by a consultant or a consultation to develop more structured programming that leads to GE course submissions.

This type of approach can be integrated into regular program or department meeting schedules to benefit the greatest number of instructors.
