Drake Institute Autumn Semester Programming

The Drake Institute’s autumn's schedule of events includes collaborations with Institute Affiliates, Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing, Dennis Learning Center, First Year Experience, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Undergraduate Education, and University Libraries, among others. Additionally, the Drake Institute is pleased to announce the addition of two new Instructional Consultants, four new Graduate Consultants, and a Graduate Research Associate to the team.  

Visitors to our website can now browse events by a particular core competency area that is of interest (e.g., active learning, assessing student learning, inclusive teaching). A newly added overview of each core competency is available on the Drake Institute’s events webpage. Participants can also expect to see enhanced handouts and supplemental resources to accompany each event. 

New featured events that will be offered this autumn semester include: 

  • Introduction to Teaching New First Year Students workshop: the first in a series of workshops focused on New First Year Students (NFYS) – these workshops are the result of continued collaboration with partners from the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering, the Dennis Learning Center, First Year Experience, and Undergraduate Education (General Education Bookends)   

  • Active Learning Workshop Series: This is a 6-part series on Active Learning. Attend all six sessions or choose the topics that suit you. In this series, participants will learn about active learning and explore evidence-based strategies that can be incorporated into teaching across disciplines and modalities 

  • Teaching and Learning with Artificial Intelligence: During this interactive session, a group of educational developers from units such as the Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing, Committee on Academic Misconduct, Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning, Office of Technology and Digital Innovation, and University Libraries will share strategies, answer questions, and provide feedback as participants develop plans for teaching with AI

If you need support developing teaching and learning effective practices, the Drake Institute offers options such as Course Design Institutes, Individual Consultations, Instructional Redesigns, and Teaching Endorsements. Unless otherwise specified, all Drake Institute events are open to all who teach and support teaching, such as faculty, staff, GTAs, and postdocs. Everyone is welcome!
