UITL invites Ohio State instructors to apply for participation in a learning community focused on Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and Discipline-based Education Research (DBER). The learning community offers faculty and staff a year-long opportunity to learn about and undertake a project in SoTL or DBER while establishing collegial relationships across disciplines and reinforcing a faculty culture that brings together the scholarship, research, and practice of teaching and learning.
Applications are due Friday, Nov. 15. Up to eight applicants will be selected to participate.

The Office of International Affairs will host the International Student Experience Workshop Series for faculty and staff, a three-part sequence to educate participants about life as an international student and offer guidance on how to best work with this population. Workshops will include staff presentations and a panel of international student s. The UITL Teaching Support Program will continue into the 2019-20 academic year. Compensation-eligible instructors who have not yet completed the Teaching Practices Inventory, Teaching@OhioState online modules, and the UITL Reading List reflection still have the opportunity to do so. To date, 1,615 instructors have completed all of these activities, and 2,700 (over 50% of eligible instructors) have stepped into the program. The University Institute for Teaching and Learning (UITL) and its partner, Universities Libraries, are pleased to announce a new Teaching Endorsement on Meaningful Inquiry. While earning this endorsement, faculty, staff, and GTAs will consider practical strategies for addressing racial and social class achievement gaps by designing meaningful and equitable research assignments. The Meaningful Inquiry Teaching Endorsement requires completion of a workshop series, the first of which will be offered Aug. 12 to 14. Those who complete the series will also be eligible for a Meaningful Inquiry grant.
As of June 15, nearly 2,700 Ohio State University instructors have completed at least one part of the University Institute for Teaching and Learning’s Teaching Support Program launched in the autumn semester 2018. That’s over 53% of those eligible.
